Summer Reading Plan

On Wednesdays I take Brayden to the Anderson County Library for a toddler storytime. This started because our babysitter was taking chemo each Wednesday, so I reworked my schedule to have some daddy-Brayden time each week. Now, it is a time that I guard to have with just him each week...well, at least until he starts preschool this fall. Today, we signed up for the Summer reading program which means that between now and July 31, Christi and I will read at least 50 books to our little guy. This shouldn't be too hard because he LOVES books.

This got me thinking about books that I would recommend for people in our church (or wherever) to read over the summer. I know with vacations and downtime, reading might be a little more feasible than it is at other times. So, here is the list I am breaking into four categories: Christian living, theology, history, and "regular" reading.

Christian Living
Not a Fan by Kyle Idleman
What Every Christian Ought to Know by Adrian Rogers
Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
Shepherding a Child's Heart by Tedd Tripp
Kingdom Man by Tony Evans

Theology
Holiness by JC Ryle
Engaging with God by David Peterson
The Lukan Authorship of Hebrews by David Allen
Knowledge of the Holy by A.W. Tozer
Scripture by Robert Saucy

History
The Baptist Reformation by Jerry Sutton
A Hill on Which to Die by Paul Pressler
William Carey and the Missionary Vision by Daniel Webber
Anatomy of a Reformation by Paige Patterson
Shadow of the Almighty by Elisabeth Elliot

"Regular" Reading
The Sacred Journey by Frederick Buechner
Nicomachean Ethics by Aristotle
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
The Complete Tales and Poems of Edgar Allen Poe by Edgar Allen Poe

Keep in mind that all of these are secondary to reading the Word of God. Enjoy your reading!
