Keep silent, and Satan wins.
What a staggering quote from Don Carson. You can find it in his yearlong devotional book "For the Love of God" (1998, Crossway Publishing). It will be toward the end of the year on December 21. Doesn't that just scream "Christmas spirit!"???
Keep silent, and Satan wins.
The sound of that phrase has echoed in my mind for just over a month now. It is a critical truth that every Christian, committed to their faith knows deep down. We have been indoctrinated with this essential fact from children's Sunday School all the way through adult Bible studies. We know that sharing the Gospel is what we are supposed to be doing. We know that if we are going to actually reach people that we must, at some point, open our mouths. Yeah, we live in the text message, Twitter, facebook message age where we can *silently* invite someone to church through the window of technology. But, aren't you using words to type?
Keep silent, and Satan wins.
Somewhere along the line we became inoculated against this pivotal and crucial truth of our faith. We bought into the concept that pastors and church staff were the "professional" go-getters for the church. We laid our souls on the altar of fearing what man may so or do to us if we were to actually open up about what we believe. We hid behind the notion that it isn't politically correct to tell people about what we believe or that someone might just get their feelings hurt. We have used the excuses that we "don't know what to say" (which is really saying, "I don't know what I believe") or that we "don't want to tell them the wrong thing". So, we keep silent.
Keep silent, and Satan wins.
So, the question we have now is whether or not we will let Satan win. Just because he won yesterday or has been winning for sometime does not mean that we have to let him continue winning. When we keep silent, let him win. Over the next 5 weeks we are going to uncover some common ways that we let Satan win and how to keep him from winning again. For now it starts with this...don't keep silent!

Hey! I want to hear from you. Let's bridge dialogue as followers of Christ and not followers of the world. I am eager to see how we can grow together!
